A New Found Love

HI.  How are you?  Good I hope!  I realized this week what a busy two weeks I’ve got ahead of me.  My school does this thing with the senior class every year called Frolics which is basically a bunch of skits about high school and what not.  It’s a ton of fun and it is a way to bring our class together before graduation (although I’m not sure how that’s working out).  Any who, we have rehearsal from 3-7 everyday this week and from 3-10 next!  So I’ve got an action packed month in front of me.  No worries though, I love being busy!

To move on……I have found a new love.  What is it may you ask? CROSS TRAINING!  After taking last week entirely off, I was so ready to get going again yesterday.  Since I had a really long season, my sister and parents told me it would be a good idea to take two full weeks off from running.  I miss it!  But I know it’s for the best.  Not being able to run has made me realize how great cross training is.  It gets my heart rate up and has me sweating without the pounding on my legs!  Yipeeee.  Both yesterday and today I’ve enjoyed 23 minutes on the stationary bike and 20 on the elliptical, along with some squats, lunges, abs, and upper body lifting that has got my body screaming.  There’s nothing like a good soreness to remind you of that great workout you completed!  I decided to snap a quick mirror selfie for you all while I was having fun on the bike at 5:30 this morning. Oh yeah.

I’m super lucky to have a mini gym right in my very own basement with tons of equipment that allow me to get a perfectly good workout in at the comfort of my own home.  There really is never an excuse for me!  I’ve got a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, mini punching bag station, some big machine that can do just about every exercise to work on strength, and a whole set of weights.  And a TV!  As mentioned earlier, there is NO good excuse to not being able to get a work out in.

Although I’m eager to get to running, I’m going to enjoy this week of trying out some new things!  Tomorrow I’ve got a stair workout planned.  On top of the sore body already?  I’ll let you know how it goes.  Here is a great article on cross training and its importance if you want to learn more!

What is your favorite way to cross train?

  1. i love having a mini gym in my garage! i have a gym membership to a really nice gym, but it’s a 15-minute drive so when i’m feeling lazy i can at least convince myself to go use the equipment i have at home.

i’ve been running 5-6 days a week with track, but i went to a BodyCombat and BodyPump class yesterday and woke up this morning with THE sorest upper body muscles i’ve had in a really long time. makes me realize how much upper body strength i’ve lost since the beginning of the track season – and got me motivated to try to fit some more of those kinds of classes into my routine!

Kudos to you for trying new stuff! I love visiting my parents with our treadmill/weight room upstairs, it’s nice to be able to work out in PJ’s haha 😉
Swimming is my favorite form of cross training!

  3. Great mini gym! I love having my college’s gym just an 8 minute walk away.. So when the weather’s bad or my knees are sore, I can still cross train! I love cross training, but I’m really picky about it.. I will only use the Adaptive Motion Trainer at my college gym, and occasionally the ellipticals. I should start biking though. I also love lifting, of course! Good job resting your body, girl. 🙂

I would love to have a gym in my house!! I really would like having some cardio machines at least! Right now I only basically have weights and all my workout dvd’s 😦

Stair workout….mehhhh! I wish I wasn’t a lazy poop and could be getting up to lift with you tomorrow! 😦

  6. Sometimes cross training is the only way to go :). I love doing the elliptical, stepmill, and bike!

  7. I’m glad you found some cross training that you love! I learned to incorporate it in early on, especially when I had some IT band issues that kept me from running. Now sometimes I love days where I can just jump on the elliptical for a bit and then hit up the weights!

You are so lucky to have your own little mini gym!! I’m incredibly bored of cross training at this point… I mean I’ve been doing it for about 4 months with just a bit of running in between. I like pool running to be as running specific as possible, but I really want a real road bike to go out and train on!!

YAY to cross-training…it seriously helped me keep my sanity while not running for 2-weeks!
my favorite forms are spin classes and riding my road bike…I also like to get on the Arc trainer at the gym sometimes and zone out while listening to music.
I hope you have a FUN busy week ahead of you!
    xoxo!

  10. My goal in life: to have a mini gym in my house! Yours is perfect! How lucky you are! I think I would be much more motivated to work out that way 🙂

You’re so lucky! Although I do have a stand for my bike that I need to use more often! I like to bike (usually outside) and do yoga for cross training…neither of which I have done in wayy too long. I think I will though after reading this.

Looks like you have the HOOK-UP there. I love the rowing machine and the stepmill for a little cross training. And maybe a little Zuzana!!
