Superbowl Sunday, A Recipe, and Global Warming

Hello everyone!  It’s been awhile (for me) since I last posted!  This week was pretty hectic & although I love being busy, I’m glad it is finally the weekend.  Speaking of weekend, tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday!  Being from New England, I’m a huge Pats fan.  I’m super excited to watch the game tomorrow and I totally plan on finding a healthy & delicious appetizer to bring wherever I end up going.  I especially can’t wait to see this guy playing……….

Well hello there, Wes Welker. My fingers are crossed that they play well and can pull of a win!

Next, I’ve got a recipe! After reading a bunch of different recipes for protein filled breakfast smoothies/bowls, I decided to come up with my own (which is probably not original, sorry in advance if I’m taking anyone’s recipe-it’s not on purpose!).

Ingredients:

1 vanilla chobani

1 scoop of chocolate protein powder

1/2 cup almond milk

This is literally one of the easiest things to make.  I put it all in a blender and BAM, I had myself a tasty breakfast with roughly 30 grams of protein in it.  I can be topped with anything you want, I decided to go with some kashi go lean cereal for extra protein.  This is the kind of smoothie that you can kinda experiment and do whatever with and it will probably taste good.  If I had a banana, it definitely would’ve been included.  Next time I’m even gonna throw some spinach in there!  The only thing I wanted to change about this smoothie was the thickness.  It was really thin and I was sort of looking for something with a thicker consistency.  But other than that, it was great and there is nothing like a nice filling protein smoothie/bowl for breakfast!

Are any of my readers from New England?  It has been SO WARM this winter.  It’s gotta be some kind of record.  For me, it’s absolutely fantastic.  I hate the snow and despise being cold, so these warmer days are just lovely!  I must say though, it is a bit bizarre.  I’m used to sub 20 degree days and layers, layers, and more layers.  Not this year!  IT WAS 50 DEGREES THIS PAST MONDAY. 50!  I was laying out of running clothes and couldn’t help but snap a picture of the long sleeve and shorts I wore!

I just couldn’t believe I was running in this on the first of february.  Absolutely crazy.  And of course there is nothing better than post workout selfies that I know I’m gonna include in my next post…

YAY WEEKEND! Before I regret posting this picture, I’m gonna publish this!  I hope everyone has a great weekend & GO PATRIOTS!

Who else plans on watching the superbowl?

Anyone have any good healthy appetizer recipes to bring to a superbowl party?

Anyone have any recommendations on how to thicken up a protein smoothie?

Woo go patriots! They’re my boyfriends favorite team so I’m rooting with him haha whenever I add milk to my protein shakes they come out a lot thicker but that may be because I usually just use water, hope that helps 🙂

I probably won’t watch the super bowl to be honest. I only watch when the eagles are in it… so the last time I watched was when I was in 4th or 5th grade! I’ve heard adding oats to smoothies makes it super thick. I’ve never tried it though!

  3. my suggestions for thickening up a smoothie are to add some frozen fruit and a little less liquid, add a little crushed ice, or get some sort of thickener like xanthan gum. i’ve never used a thickener because they’re super expensive, so my favorite thing to do is to use frozen fruit.

i’m watching the Super Bowl with my dad tomorrow – so pumped!

  4. Xanthan gum makes it super thick. I find that adding lemon AND xanthan gum makes smoothies even thicker (I don’t know why though, and I may be crazy haha). Some people are against the whole spinach think in smoothies, but I think the spinach makes it much thicker so I add it every time 🙂

  5. Spinach makes it thicker, as well as using less liquid. Also, a frozen banana will help. I use almost no liquid in my smoothie monsters, except ice cubes.. They’re suuuper thick and delicious! I watched the Super Bowl last night. Luckily, I’m a Giants fan (but we can still be blog friends, I hope!).
